Energy News – Gas Prices are Set To Rise

The energy regulator has announced it is to approve a price hike of approx 22% in household gas prices from October 2011, although initially a 28% rise was sought.

So with this Winter set to be as cold as the Winter of 2010, we could be in for large heating bills again, as well as water shortages and leaks.

Home Improvements & Extensions

Due to the large number of house extensions and improvements being carried out recently and the large volume of enquiries we receive each week here is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions and their answers for your information:

Q:When should I get in contact with Thermasol if I am interested in installing solar panels or heating control upgrades?

A:The sooner you can get in contact with us the better to ensure you are getting the best advice possible from a heating control and Thermodynamic Solar perspective. Due to the flexibility of our systems people are often surprised at the ease by which our systems are installed, and the huge benefits of fitting these systems.

Q:Are there grants still available?

A:Yes. SEAI still fund renewable products including our Thermodynamic Solar System and heating controls. In fact SEAI is enforcing stricter measures in regards to Solar systems and insists certain regulations are met when installing solar systems. In order to qualify for the full €800 grant aid certain regulations must be adhered to and met. Typical solar systems i.e. flat plate and evacuated tube systems are finding it increasingly hard to meet these regulations, whereas our Thermodynamic Solar System is so efficient it outstrips and surpasses conventional solar, making meeting the guidelines alot easier with our system.

Q:How do I know if I qualify for the grant?

A:You should log onto www.SEAI.ie and enter the Better Homes Scheme area and look for online applications, follow the details and apply online. You will need certain information to complete the application including your MPRN, address, etc. Here is the information you will need for our Thermodynamic Solar System. Successful applicants will be notified within 48 hours.

Q:Do I need to replace my older existing cylinder?

A:Yes you will. The Thermodynamic Solar Panel system consists of a custom cylinder which must replace any existing cylinder in your hot press. Chances are your cylinder is too small, poorly insulated, or relies heavily on your immersion or your central heating system to provide hot water.

Q:I have a relatively new dual coil cylinder, do I need to replace that?

A:Yes. The reason being our cylinder is designed for the Thermodynamic Solar Panel system and as such no existing cylinder will be compatible with our system.

Q:How do I know what system suits me?

A:The answer is based on a number of factors: number of people in your home, heating system, hot press dimensions, etc. Solid fuel systems (stoves/ranges with back boilers) must have a cylinder with a coil for regulatory and safety reasons. Your oil or gas fired boiler will never be connected to our cylinder as the Thermodynamic Solar Panel can provide 100% of your hot water needs.
